Welcome to Leftwang, v2
Just a short welcome message to get things started. Leftwang is my community for those of a liberal bent, who wish to have a space to noodle or rant.

I don't mind inflammatory stuff, but obvious trolls and flamers will be reported to lj, and I do log IP addresses!

So please, feel free to post and spread the word. Let me know about any similar communities and I'll add them to the friends list.

I'm not a huge Gray Davis fan, but I think a goodly chunk of the problems California is facing now are due to a combination of national and global recession, and past excesses (his and Wilson's both) with California's previous budget surpluses. We didn't keep enough in the bank, basically. I think a recall would be too expensive, and the alternatives presented to Davis aren't good enough to make it worthwhile. If a much better alternative were presented, or if he could be blamed for most of our current woes, I'd support a recall more strongly.
A recall of Davis "looks almost certain at this point," says Richard Riordan, the former mayor of Los Angeles. In addition to Issa, Los Angeles businessman Bill Simon, whom Davis beat last November, might run if Davis is recalled. So might Riordan, but only if Schwarzenegger, whom he calls a close friend, does not. For now, a host of well-known Democrats -- including Sen. Dianne Feinstein -- say they have no plans to run on a recall ballot. Neither will actor, director and Democratic activist Rob Reiner, denying Californians a coveted Meathead vs. Terminator scenario.

Dang. I'd actually vote for Rob Reiner. :)
